Ether Prodigy, or in areas with few enchantment strips Elemental Attunement is worth looking at. It is particularly powerfull when used in combo with the relavent non-elite attunement aswell.
Ether Prodigy is probably the best in general though, when you don't have too many other exhaustion causing skills.

Glyph Of Energy - Without doubt my favourite elementalist elite. Allows me to break my personal rule of only 1 exhaustion spell per skill bar.
Obsidian Flesh is also a firm favourite. Has little use, but I like having what I call diplomatic immunity. I use it in the arenas every now and then to piss off casters.
Nothing beats watching an enemy caster go for a spell (starts the animation) then suddenly stops. Standing there looking like a complete lemon . I find it quite amusing contemplating the look of disdain on their face as a large portion of their kick-ass spells just got binned.
Ether Renewal is still the 'god' spell . Even in it's current crippled form.
Mirror Of Ice: I hate this elite with such passion. It promised so much but delivered so little. Mesmers just laugh in my face as all their hexes still go through completely.

It used only one time, you know. If you get a spell on you, the dmg is negated and the caster lose health AND Mirror of Ice ends. Its a protection you get for one use only, need to recast after negated the spell and good against 1 strip enchantment spell only. Its good against other Eles, not Mesmers generally.

AL does almost squat to the bigger damage dealers. You know things like deep wound, + damage, shadow, chaos, holy damage, etc. Only thing it helps against are things that dont use skills, or the majority of elementalist skills.
Its like figuring out what is the easiest way to kill a AL tank in pvp. Either hit him with a touch ranger, or watch him melt under a painful bond rit. Either way, its pretty pointless to put forward that only having AL means much.
As for the original topic though, people bring eles to either spam k/d in pve or spam spells via ether prodigy. So, the conversation ends with ether prodigy and glyph of renewal being the better elietes. Ether prodigy being the more flexable in overal use would probably put it as the "best" overal eliete though, as it potentially enhances virtually any build that can be thought up.

Um.... Duh. We were talking about eles _-_.
It's annoying when people correct what they fail to grasp.

ahh the common elementalist discussion of elite. well for farming i prefer ether renewal because it works great wtih the 4 enchantments i keep up, after i cast i generally use stone daggers to sky rocket my hp and energy in a matter of seconds. as for fighting with groups in pve i always use ele attune for the fact that there aren't as many strips or shatters in pve as ppl think there r. but for pvp i do use ether prod. for the fact the i support my team with heals and need the energy fast. the thign with ether prod. though is that u CANNOT spam this spell or u will exhaust urself terribly

1. Ether Prodigy. Best e-managment skill for an ele hands down. With a short recast time you don't have to worry about enchant removal as much. Unlike Dual Atunements, Ether Prodigy lets you spam secondary class spells. Hurray for Heal Party. I personaly wish I saw more E/Mos with Prodigy and Heal Party around in PvE. It would make my day that much better.
2. Elemental Atunement. Good for builds that include exaustion spells, or pure-ele builds. Since you have to use this with another atunement for it to be the most effective, it takes up more room on your skillbar. It's also weak to enchant removal, unless you take yet another enchant to cover it.

So, why exactly are you trying to tank with one then?

My guild actually uses energy boon in one of our builds, and I'll let you know, it works fine.

Run the numbers, it sucks. Your guild may be happy to use suboptimal crap but it's hardly efficient.

My favorite Elementalist Elite has to be Second Wind. In a build with Exausting skills, it is the best Energy management (run the numbers, I can gain approximately 45 energy every 5 seconds). That is 9 energy every second (comparatively to Ether Prodigy's 3.3). Spamming Obsidian Flame, Dragon Stomp, and E.Quake has never been so rewarding!

Mirror of ice doesnt negate strip enchants etc, it only negates _Damage_ from spells
It's like a one time use of Mist form for spells, except the enemy takes damage.

for E-Mgmt. Tyria - Ele Attune; Cantha - Glyph of Energy,...just been bitten to many times by Prodigy though I'll admit I should try it in other places besides Tombs. Also I swear the mezzes in Cantha are echoing Shatter! Hadn't worked with my 2nd Wind enough yet. Just capped Energy Boon yesterday so I can't speak to it either.
Fire - StarBurst is really quite fun!
Earth - how can I choose, they're all so fun,..bah, Earthquake, Aftershock, Shockwave just makes stuff fall down!
Air - All I have thus far is Gust and Thunderclap, gotta say Gust in combo with my water snares is more effective overall but Thunderclap makes me smile more. ^^
Water - Goad another Ele into a 1v1 in an AB, and bring along Mirror of Ice. It's a guilty pleasure to be sure,...but oh so pleasurable!
